Toyota is seeking to replace Ford in every way possible
April 2018 announcement from Ford Motor Company may have come as a surprise to may automotive automotive industry followers. Ford announced that it was dropping all but two of its passenger cars in the US, a move to cut costs and also to meet the demands of consumers who are now choosing to buy larger passenger vehicles, the now being loved SUVs and Crossovers.
Ford’s intention was to focus attention on the production of SUVs and pickups which are now enjoying loss of sales, especially in the US. This decision by ford affected the Fiesta, Fusion, regular Focus models.
Ford’s replacement for the Focus at this April announcement as the Focus Active, a wagon styled Ford Focus with stretched dimensions and a little increase in ground clearance to make it appeal to the crossover hungry US market. Donald Trump got in the way of this happening with his trade war with China. The Active is a Chinese market model that is built in China and would have to be imported into the US. In a swift move, for announced again that the Active was not coming to the US again.
This move left the might mustang as the only non-SUV passenger car in the US to do battle with the Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger, which is receiving lots of interest with the FCA’s Hemi muscle Engines.
These moves left a small gap in the market that Toyota would not let go without any move to desires of Focus enthusiasts. Toyota is doubling down now on the production hatchbacks for the US market. The new Toyota hatchback is taking fro where the For Focus left off. Toyota has also released TRD versions of most of its lineups. The TRD version of the Corolla hatchback will replace the ST version of the Focus.
